The industries of Scott County manufacture a wide range of products. The County has been instrumental in establishing new industries and expanding existing industries through the efforts of its economic and industrial development program.



The new industries in Scott County include Simmons Upholstered Furniture, Inc., Safety Storage, Inc., Genesis Plastics and Engineering, LLC., Soliman Brothers, Inc., and Total Concepts of Design, Inc.



Safety Storage, Inc. recently purchased a 45,000-sq. ft. building. They manufacture industrial storage buildings and secondary containment products.



COSCO, Inc. opened a distribution center in Austin. They manufacture children's furniture, and they presently employ 30 people at this distribution center.



Simmons Upholstered Furniture, Inc. recently opened a sewing facility that will manufacture upholstery fabrics for furniture. SUF is one of the largest upholstered furniture manufacturers in the United States. They are presently looking to hire 32 employees.



Indiana Bottle Company, Inc., a plastic blow molding facility, recently completed construction of an 8,000-sq. ft. building with plans to expand in the 1st quarter of 1996. They presently employ 20 and expect to hire as they expand.



Freudenberg NOK (formerly International Packing Corp.) constructed an additional 10,000 square foot manufacturing facility which began operations in December, 1989. This facility will specialize in polyurethane products. Additional expansion is expected to increase the plant to 60,000 square feet and to increase employment to 160.



Holm Industries, Inc., which is a subsidiary of Standard Products Co., is the largest employer in Scott County. The company manufactures extruded vinyl magnetic gaskets. They have completed a building modification that provides a second floor to their present office facility. The company has recently expanded to include an R & D facility and 60,000 sq. ft. warehouse for their Corporation. They currently employ 625.



Morgan Foods, Inc., the county's oldest industry, has implemented a program to modernize equipment and retrain its work force to meet the challenges of the food processing industry: In 1991 & 1992, they received a training grant totaling $32,125.00. Additional upgrading and modernization will continue.



Scottsburg Plastics, Inc. was established in 1981 as a custom injection molder of plastic products. SPI expanded their operations in the fall of 1994 creating additional jobs.



Soliman Brothers, Inc., has purchased an existing building in Scott County and have begun operations in veneer lumber export. They currently export wood products to Europe and the Middle East.



Genesis Plastics and Engineering, LLC is constructing a new facility in the Northern Scottsburg Industrial Site and will begin production in the Spring of 1996. As a custom injection molder, they will be serving foreign and domestic markets.



Total Concepts of Design, Inc., has purchased an existing building in Scott County and have begun operation in custom engineered packaging. The facility was renovated to house a welding shop, painting area, and a fabrication and assembly area. TCD served Midwest manufacturers with custom-made packaging.
